1896 - Company Founded by Edwin Venner a Chartered Accountant

1914-1918 - Edwin Venner assists Government with licensing laws. Government worried that munitions workers may consume alcohol during the daytime. Law amended so pubs opened after work commenced and closed in the afternoons. This was done through the Defence of the Realm Act in 1914. Edwin received a knighthood for his efforts.

1920's - Venners sell the freehold to their Bishopsgate premises to National Provincial Bank in 1924 and some years later the NatWest Tower was constructed on the redeveloped site. Also in 1924, both the Forest Hill Brewery and the family’s pubs were sold to Whitbread.

1930's - Moved to temporary offices in Plaistow Lane, Bromley in Kent due to the outbreak of war in 1939

1940's -Edwin Venner retires in July 1946 and John L Venner appointed joint managing director with Harold White. Harold White dies within the year leaving John L Venner as governing director in July 1947. Company pension scheme introduced in July 1949. The salary of each employee was increased by the approximate amount of the initial contribution, to take effect from the commencing date.
